Locker Room ➡️ Spotify Greenroom
While working at Betty Labs, I was the lead designer for our social audio app, Locker Room. After several months of growth and strong retention we were acquired by Spotify in 2021. Our product was rebranded to Spotify Greenroom and I became the lead designer for the new offering.
Locker Room
Designed for sports fans to connect and build community. First live audio platform to offer a text chat within a live room, room recordings, and lightweight reactions.
Redesign process
Our small team of 4 designers went through every surface and state of the Locker Room app and created a comprehensive design system to build the new Spotify Greenroom product.
Key screens from the redesign.
Net new product improvements
Over the course of the next year and a half I led several new feature implementations as we learned from our creators and listeners.
Music streaming
A huge use case we discovered for our product was artists wanting to share their music with fans as well as fans wanting to have live DJ sessions. We built a feature for users to stream their Spotify music directly into a live room.
For listeners in a room, this opened brand new ways to discover music. We made sure you could easily save a song being played to your own playlists.
Show discovery / interface explorations
Fun concepts around different ways of previewing content and discovering shows aside from a traditional feed. Tested out autoplaying rooms and giving it more of a traditional radio browsing feel - but within a visual surface.
Room interactivity improvements
Our team was constantly experimenting with ways to make the live experience more interactive and foster connection between speakers and listeners.
